Farmingdale senior Ryan Fredericks was recently awarded the Paul Marchisotto Scholarship, an honor given by the Northrop Grumman Corporation in memory of the late vice president.
Fredericks has been interning at the Bethpage corporation as part of the Farmingdale High School internship program, headed by internship coordinator Lynn Brewer. He was one of the three national winners.
Marchisotto worked for Grumman for 20 years, as a vice president and B-2 program manager for Northrop Grumman Integrated Systems. In 2006, he died in a Memorial Day weekend plane crash with his wife and daughter. He was piloting a Cessna 182 in California and crashed into Magee Peak, an 8,550-foot mountain.
