Farmingdale's Whiskey Down Diner Raises $2K For Cancer Research

FARMINGDALE, NY — Super Luke's Lemonade Stand, placed outside Whiskey Down Diner in Farmingdale on Aug. 29, raised $2,000 toward pediatric cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Luke Mohan, 8, is three years cancer free after he was diagnosed with stage four high-risk neuroblastoma in February 2022. Mohan is the son of Kristina Mohan, a co-owner of Whiskey Down Diner, and the nephew of Alyson and John Kanaras, the other two siblings who own the diner.

Luke was treated at Memorial Sloan Kettering, so the Mohan-Kanaras family is "forever grateful" to the program there, the family wrote on a social media post.

"The money raised by Whiskey Down always goes directly towards a cancer vaccine that MSK has developed for high-risk neuroblastoma to help prevent relapse, which targets the GD2 and GD3 proteins found on neuroblastoma cells," the family wrote. "It is the only pediatric tumor vaccine and is designed to maintain remission in patients who have no evidence of disease after treatment. Luke is currently receiving this vaccine along with many of his other lil' cancer warrior friends."

Whiskey Down Diner, located at 252 Main St., Farmingdale, opened in June 2019 and has since become a popular Main Street eatery known for its brunch, dinner, cocktails and milkshakes.
