Howitt Students Celebrate the 'Day of the Dead'

History and origin of the "Dia de los Muertos," topic of lively discussion.

Eighth grade students in Howitt Middle School's Spanish classes recently learned about “Dia de los Muertos,” a popular and spiritual Mexican holiday that honors the passing of loved ones.

The traditional holiday annually takes place from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.

Students learned the history and origin of the “Day of the Dead” holiday through interactive online programs. The eighth-grade students also wrote letters to their deceased loved ones and learned a variety of culture, art and literature affiliated with the holiday.
