Farmingdale High School captured its second consecutive Long Island lacrosse crown with an 11-6 victory over Half Hollow Hills in the Class A 2024 Long Island Boys Lacrosse Championships held at East Islip High School in Islip Terrace on Wednesday, May 29. Senior goalie James Caputo, with 10 saves, received the game's James C. Metzger MVP Award.

This was the third prestigious Metzger lacrosse award received by Caputo, the first Nassau County high school player to collect all three honors. Less than one week ago, he received the 2024 James C. Metzger Leadership Award at the Nassau County championships. A few years ago, Caputo shared the James C. Metzger Most Valuable Player Award in the Rising Sophomores game of the 2021 Long Island Lacrosse Showcase.

The latest award was presented by James C. Metzger and James Pannell. A 1970s Long Island lacrosse star and now a lacrosse benefactor, Metzger received the 1977 Lt. Ray Enners Award as outstanding Suffolk County player and then was an All-American at Hofstra University. A member of the Hofstra Athletics Hall of Fame and the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame, he is founder, chairman and CEO of Whitmore – The Agency, an insurance and financial services firm in Garden City now known as Acrisure. Pannell is a two-time All-American and career points leader at Smithtown West High School. He was an All-American at the University of Virginia and a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star.
