'Jefferson Plaza' is a Glimpse Into Farmingdale's Future
$38 million retail and real estate project will take two years to complete.

Farmingdale got a glimpse into the future of it's new downtown on Wednesday.
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano joined a host of public officials in announcing the beginning of construction of the new 154-unit housing and retail project near the Long Island Rail Road station.
The $38 million project, to be called "Jefferson Plaza," is being built by Texas-based TDI Real Estate Holdings LLC, a national developer of multi-family housing, and Farmingdale developer Bartone Properties LLC. The construction is expected to take two years to complete and is anticipated to generate $57.5 million in economic benefits to Nassau County
Officials said the construction will create 113 full-time equivalent construction jobs and as many as 14 permanent jobs.
Some of the funding is being facilitated by the the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency, which approved the economic development package.
"This project, close to the downtown shops and restaurants in Farmingdale, brings much-needed rental options for our residents while generating millions in economic benefit for our local economy, and is another example of our commitment to creating transit-oriented development,” Mangano said.
The project includes affordable workforce housing.
Eric Alexander, Director of Vision Long Island, said the project will provide needed housing and strengthen Main Street.
"The process was a long one starting with a visioning plan driven by the community in 2006 but kudos to Bartone Properties, Mayor Ralph Ekstrand and Nassau County for carrying the project to fruition,” Alexander said.
