Police ID Pedestrian Killed In Farmingdale Crash

The man, 73, was crossing a road when he was hit by a pick-up truck, police say. Police identified him on Wednesday.

FARMINGDALE, NY — A pedestrian was killed in a Farmingdale crash on Sunday night, Nassau police said.

Daniel McCarthy, 73, who was homeless, was crossing Hempstead Turnpike, east of West Gate, when he was struck by a 2014 Ford pick-up truck driven by a 57-year-old man around 8:15 p.m., police said. McCarthy was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

The driver remained at the scene, and police checked the brakes and safety of the pick-up truck.

Police are investigating, but they do not currently suspect criminality.
