
On Thursday, the following roads will be closed from 6-6:45 p.m. for the Farmingdale Community Summit 9/11 Remembrance Walk:
- Motor Avenue West from Kent Street to Merritts Road
- Merritts Road North from Motor Ave. to the Farmingdale Public Library entrance.
For the past nine years the Farmingdale Community Summit has gathered together to commemorate the tragic events of September 11, 2001. This year marks the 10th Anniversary and the Farmingdale Community is holding a special gathering, a Remembrance Walk, from the Mazza monument at in Farmingdale to the
The Remembrance Walk will take place on Thursday. Community members will gather at Allen Park at 5:30 p.m and walk to the library starting at 6 p.m. The Nassau County Firefighters Pipe and Drum will be walking along with all four local Fire Departments (Farmingdale, East Farmingdale, South Farmingdale and North Massapequa).

At the library there will be a commemorative service starting around 7 p.m. In addition, as part of the 10th Anniversary commemoration, the Summit will add a piece of steel from the twin towers and a light to the existing monuments.
This is not only a memorial event and remembrance but a celebration of the human spirit of those whose lives were cut short. They will also recognize and honor those who were first responders to 9/11 as well as those in the military serving overseas as a result of the attack.
