Good Samaritan Rescues 3 From Disabled CT Vessel Off Fire Island: USCG

The people, who were aboard "Hot Chocolate" were found safe after leaving New Haven bound for Okracoke, NC , the U.S. Coast Guard said.

LONG ISLAND, NY — A good Samaritan rescued three people from a disabled Connecticut vessel about 46 miles off of the coast of Fire Island on Tuesday night, United States Coast Guard Petty Officer Sydney Phoenix said.

The event unfolded after person, who is friends with one of the people aboard the sailboat, "Hot Chocolate," reported their concern after it departed New Haven, CT for Okracoke, NC, and an urgent marine warning was issued and the agency sent out two search vessels.

A good Samaritan called in that they had eyes on the vessel, and the agency redirected one of its airplanes, and then the good Samaritan took the three people on board their vessel.

"There was rough weather conditions, and the good Samaritan decided to keep the three people on board until they returned to home port tonight," Phoenix said.

No injuries were reported.
