Arson Detectives Investigating Fire Island Pines Blaze: Police

The fire started just after midnight on Saturday, Suffolk police say.

FIRE ISLAND PINES, NY — Arson Squad detectives are investigating a blaze that broke out at a Fire Island Pines home on Saturday night, Suffolk police said.

Officers and firefighters from multiple departments responded to the fire on Bay Walk just after midnight, according to police.

There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation, police said.

The home has been deemed a total loss, and while no cause has been determined, it is believed the fire may have started in a sauna that was on the property, the Fire Island News reported.

Video footage posted by the Fire Island Pines Fire Department to its Instagram page shows the blaze as flames and smoke billow from the waterfront home. A photo also shows the home's charred structure surrounded by debris and covered in soot and ash.

It's the second such fire in the pines since October when another home was lost on Fire Island Boulevard.
