"The happy family swam away into the Great South Bay where the ducklings were able to take a much needed bath."-Suffolk County Police Dept.

GILGO BEACH, NY — A mother duck and her ducklings were reunited after Suffolk County Police officers came to their rescue on Monday evening.

According to police, marine bureau officers John Rodriguez and Robert Mroczkowski were patrolling Gilgo Beach when passersby flagged them down and told them ducklings were trapped in a storm drain on Broadway.

The officers pried open the storm drain grate using a crowbar, climbed down into the drain and rescued the nine baby ducks while the mother duck waited nearby, police said.
