Officials Close Beach On Fire Island Due To Ice Flow Damage

Its dock will be closed, lifeguards will not be on duty, and restrooms will be limited, the National Park Service says.

FIRE ISLAND, NY — The Talisman-Barrett Beach dock in Fire Island National Seashore is closed to all public use and there will be no lifeguards due to damage sustained from ice flows from Great South Bay during the frigid temps this winter season, the National Park Service said.

Staffers anticipate the dock will be closed through the busy summer season with no timeline for restoration, and they are assessing the damage to determine the best course of action.
No temporary floating dock will be installed.

They advise boaters to be cautious, plan on anchoring in the bay, and be aware that the water depth near Talisman Dock is "extremely shallow.
