Learn about the fun adventures you never visited, that are so close to home!

Looking for some fun things to do for your staycation during spring break? Or just looking for a day getaway from the city? Look no further! Fire Island has tons of fun activities that are still open during the off season of the island!
Fire Island Lighthouse: The historic lighthouse was first built in 1858 and was changed to the current black and white bands pattern in 1891. This historic landmark is open to the public for visitation and you can actually walk up all 182 steps between 11am and 3pm on the weekends and 1pm to 3pm on the weekdays. Go all the way up and you’ll get to see the amazing panoramic view of the ocean, Fire Island, the bays and Long Island to the north and on a clear day the skyline of New York City.
Watch Hill: This salt marsh is the largest on the island and is located on the western edge of the Otis Pike Fire Island High Dune Wilderness which is part of the National Park. Watch Hill is accessible by Watch Hill Ferry, private boat, and foot only. More than 300 species of birds have been recorded on the island and that’s about one third of the species in North America. There’s also tons of trails for hiking, beaches to explore and if you’re feeling ambitious there’s always camping!

Sunken Forest: This one of a kind rare forest was given its name because it’s located in between low meadowland that separates the narrow sandy beach from the uplands. These beautifully preserved grounds are perfect for hiking and exploring the mix of vegetation that can’t be found many other places in the world. This 50-acre natural land is protected by the wildlife preserve and therefore can never be destroyed by a public roadway or highway.
