Storm Damage Closes Three Boardwalks At National Park On Fire Island
With visitor safety as the highest priority, there is no date for reopening, officials said.

FIRE ISLAND, NY — The National Park Service announced closures of several federal areas on Fire Island Thursday, after a winter storm devastated the island.
"The federal tracts on Fire Island saw significant flooding and boardwalk damage," Nick Clemons, Chief of Interpretation, Education, and Volunteers at Fire Island National Seashore, told Patch.

- Sunken Forest Boardwalk
- Watch Hill Boardwalk
- Carrington Boardwalk
These closures are in effect until further notice.
Seashore staff will continue to monitor conditions.

Fire Island National Seashore continues to place visitor safety as the highest priority, while communicating with the public regarding next steps as storm recovery work begins, Clemons said in a news release. "There is no firm date for reopening boardwalks."
