Coast Guard Searches For Missing Person After Boat Sinks Off LI
The person went missing after their boat was struck and sank by a commercial vessel, the U.S. Coast Guard says.

FIRE ISLAND, NY β A person who went missing off the shores of Fire Island just after midnight on Thursday has yet to be found, the U.S. Coast Guard told Patch.
Two people were on a boat off Fire Island on Wednesday night, when a commercial ship struck and their vessel, according to a report received by the U.S. Coast Guard.
#ACTIVESEARCH: Just after midnight, the Coast Guard received an EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) alert located approx. 25 miles SE of Fire Island, #NY with no additional information.

Their boat sank within 15 minutes of the collision, the U.S. Coast Guard said. One of the people sent an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon, or EPIRB, alerting the U.S. Coast Guard of the emergency at about 12:20 a.m. on Thursday.

Another alert that provided the boat's location was received by the U.S. Coast Guard at 12:30 a.m.
Officials determined that the boat were 25 miles southeast of Fire Island. However, after arriving at the location, the U.S. Coast Guard only discovered one of the two people. The person was rescued at about 7 a.m. on Thursday and taken to a local hospital for non-threatening injuries, officials said.

The U.S. Coast Guard is continuing to search for the second person, who is believed to be wearing a life jacket.
