Shoplifter Fires Gun In Green Acres Mall: Police

The man fled in a red SUV late Monday morning, police said.

VALLEY STREAM, NY — The Green Acres Mall and nearby schools went on lockdown on Monday, after a shoplifting suspect fired a gun within the building, police said.

Just after 11 a.m., a man inside the Clique clothing store was suspected of shoplifting clothes by putting the items above what he was wearing, Nassau County police said.

The man attempted to leave when he was confronted by store security and an altercation ensued, police said.

It escalated at the mall's common area, where the man displayed a gun and fired a single round, authorities said.

He fled the store and entered a red SUV leaving in an unknown direction, Nassau police said.

There were no reported injuries.
