Homes Evacuated During E. Atlantic Beach Gas Main Leak

Long Beach fire officials secured a gas main leak Wednesday morning.

Homes were evacuated in E. Atlantic Beach after a potentially dangerous gas main leak Wednesday morning.

Long Beach Fire Department received a call at 9:32 a.m. about a gas leak on Bay Street near Malone Avenue, according to a post on their Facebook page. Responders found a two-inch high pressure main had been ruptured by a landscape contractor, officials said.

LBFD, under the direction of Chief RJ Tucillo, and Nassau Police evacuated each home in the area as National Grid secured the leak.

The all clear was given about 30 minutes after responders arrived at the scene, officials said.

No injuries were reported.
