  1. On May 1, the Jewish Sports Heritage Association’s induction and awards ceremony will be held in person for this first time since the pandemic. Hewlett High School graduate Rachel Arbitman will be honored for her success in tennis, along with Woodmere resident Jacob Steinmetz, the first Orthodox Jew ever drafted by a major league baseball team.   2. Pastor Justin Vetrano of Old Westbury traveled to Romania to aid Ukrainian refugees. Vetrano and his Romanian-born wife Neina spent a week in March at the Ukraine-Romania border to help book transportation and overnight accommodations for refugees. (News 12)
  3. Lindenhurst native Jeremy Ruckert was drafted on Day 2 of the NFL draft to the Jets. The Ohio State University tight end was pick No. 101 in the third round. (News 12)
