The Service-Learning Club at Lawrence Middle School made a significant impact this Thanksgiving season by collecting food donations to support families in need at Lawrence Middle School and Lawrence Elementary School. Under the guidance of advisors Maria Karvelas and Kristin Polumbo, the club successfully organized a drive to gather non-perishable items, which were used to create complete Thanksgiving meals for local families.

Thanks to the generous contributions from students, staff, and the community, the Service-Learning Club was able to provide 40 meals for 40 families, ensuring that the families could enjoy a special holiday meal this Thanksgiving. The meals, which included all the traditional trimmings of a Thanksgiving feast, were carefully packed and delivered to those who could benefit the most.

“We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication to giving back to the community,” said Maria Karvelas, Service-Learning Club advisor. “This initiative not only helps families during the holiday season, but it also teaches our students the value of service, kindness, and community support.”

This Thanksgiving meal drive is just one of many projects the club has undertaken, with students regularly engaging in activities that promote empathy, collaboration, and civic responsibility.

“We are grateful for the overwhelming support we received from everyone involved,” said Kristin Polumbo, Service-Learning Club advisor. “It’s truly inspiring to see how our students and community come together to help those in need, especially during the holidays.”
