Lawrence Woodmere Academy To Shut For 2025-2026 School Year
The learning institution's pause is "the most responsible course to avoid disruption to students, families and staff," the academy said.

WOODMERE, NY — The Lawrence Woodmere Academy (LWA), a private college in the Five Towns, will not have students this season, the school's board of directors confirmed to Patch on Friday.
"This follows a period of extensive efforts to stabilize operations, including the pursuit of new partnerships and long-term strategic planning," the school's board of directors said in a statement.
The LWA dates back to the late-19th century with the founding of Lawrence Country Day School in 1891 and the Woodmere Academy in 1912. The two schools merged in 1990, the schools' website said.

It is being called a "pause" instead of a permanent shutdown for the Woodmere school, as "the most responsible course to avoid disruption to students, families and staff."
During the 2025-2026 pause, "the board will focus on exploring sustainable paths forward for LWA," the academy said.
