Nassau Expressway Getting New Traffic Pattern Starting Saturday
The traffic pattern will be in effect as construction crews work to finish construction to improve the road.
Starting Saturday, there will be a new traffic pattern on Nassau Expressway as the state works to repair the road.
Both the northbound and southbound Nassau Expressway traffic will be shifted from the current lanes onto the newly reconstructed south side of the expressway. This will occur Friday night into Saturday morning. Two travel lanes will remain open in each direction with this new traffic pattern, which will be in place into the fall.
Variable message signs have been placed in the area to alert drivers. As with most road projects, work may be cancelled, postponed or prolonged due to weather.

Once the new traffic pattern is in place, workers will begin raising and constructing a new northbound roadway as part of the $130 million project to enhance the safety and operation of the Nassau Expressway between Rockaway Turnpike and Burnside Avenue, as well as enhance the resiliency of the roadway as an Emergency Coastal Storm Evacuation Route. Similar work has now been completed on the southbound side.
