Road Closures Start Tonight Along Nassau Expressway

The closures, which will also affect Rockaway Turnpike and Burnside Avenue, are the first step in a project to improve the road.

Starting tonight, there will be lane closures on both the northbound and southbound of Nassau Expressway as the state works to improve the safety of the road.

The road will have closures between Rockaway Turnpike and Burnside Avenue. In addition, Rockaway Turnpike will have north and south lane closures between Nassau Expressway and Peninsula Boulevard, and eastbound and westbound lanes on Burnside Avenue will have closures between Henry Street and West End avenue.

The closures will continue into Thursday and Friday nights. The closures will happen between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

These nighttime lane closures are necessary to re-stripe the roadways in preparation for traffic shifts and detours along Nassau Expressway and Rockaway Turnpike. During construction, two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction on Nassau Expressway and three lanes of traffic in each direction on Rockaway Turnpike.

The work is part of the $93.5 million New York State Department of Transportation project to improve the safety and operation of the Nassau Expressway between Rockaway Turnpike and Burnside Avenue, as well as improve the resiliency of the roadway as an Emergency Coastal Storm Evacuation Route.
