Valley Stream Students Commended By Merit Scholar Program
Three of the commended students come from Valley Stream Central High School, while two come from South High School.
VALLEY STREAM, NY. — Five seniors in the Valley Stream Central High School District were named as commended students in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program, district officials announced, placing them in elite company among 34,000 students across the country.
Valley Stream Central High School seniors Mishal Javed, Adrita Halder and Kritika Jassal and South High School seniors Andre Fernandez and Aleeza Akhtar were awarded a place among the top 50,000 students from an entry pool of over 1.3 million. The honor is conferred based on students’ PSAT scores, and indicates that they’re in the top 3% of test takers nationwide.
“The entire Valley Stream Central High School District community congratulates these outstanding students on their remarkable academic achievement,” District officials said.
