Voters Make Choice Between Kopel, Fischthal In 7th County Legislature District

See which candidate in Five Towns and East Rockaway earned over 75 percent of the votes cast.

EAST ROCKAWAY, NY. — After collecting 12,207 of the votes cast, Howard Kopel won reelection in Nassau County’s 7th County Legislature district Tuesday, defeating 25-year-old upstart Alec Fischthal. Kopel’s total comprises 76.07 percent of the votes cast in the district, while Fischthal’s 3,825 votes equals 23.85 percent of the votes, unofficial results from the Nassau County Board of Elections indicated.

Kopel is the chairman of the county legislature’s rules committee, and will be part of an 11-member majority when the new county legislative term begins in January.

Results in the election are unofficial until certified by the County Board of Elections. Further information on all of Tuesday’s elections can be found through the Nassau County Board of Elections and the New York State Board of Elections.
