Woman Dies After Suffering Critical Injuries In Inwood Crash: Police

The woman was in the passenger seat during a three-car crash on Tuesday, police say.

INWOOD, NY — The woman who was critically injured in an Inwood crash on Tuesday has died, Nassau police said on Thursday.

Yvette Hughes, 59, of Chambers, Pennsylvania, died after being hospitalized, police said.

A 64-year-old man was driving a white 2018 Honda driven southbound on Nassau Expressway when he collided with a blue 2019 Honda driven by a 24-year-old woman heading in the opposite direction, police said. The collision sent the blue Honda careening into a dark 2020 Kia driven by a 49-year-old woman, who was also heading north, police said.

Chambers was a passenger in the white Honda, police said.

The driver and a teenage passenger were not hurt, police said.

The woman driving the blue Honda was flown to a hospital, where she was listed in stable condition, police said.

The operator of the Kia stayed at the scene and was not hurt, police said.

Police are investigating the crash. Detectives asked anyone with information regarding the crash to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
