Dog Shot Dead After 'Viciously' Attacking Its Owner On LI: Police

The man was taken to a hospital with lacerations to his arm and leg, police said.

NORTH HILLS, NY — A dog was shot and killed after attacking its owner on Thursday afternoon in North Hills, police said.

A 43-year-old man was at Christopher Morley Park with his Belgium Dutch Shepherd when it turned on him and began to viciously attack him, police said.

Fearing for his life, the owner fired one round at the dog; the canine, who was off-leash at the time, succumbed to his injuries, authorities said.

The man suffered lacerations to his left arm and left leg; he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.

The owner has a license pistol permit, police said.
