ESPN's Mike Breen To Call First NBA Game Since Fire Destroyed LI Home
The NBA announcer is back on Wednesday for the season kickoff Knicks game, after a September blaze destroyed his home in North Hills.

NORTH HILLS, NY — ESPN NBA announcer Mike Breen will call the first 2022-2023 season Knicks game Wednesday night, less than a month after his family's house in North Hills was destroyed by a large fire. Breen will commentate the 7:30 p.m. New York Knicks game against the Memphis Grizzlies, along with Jeff Van Gundy and Lisa Salters.
Earlier this month, during a preseason broadcast, Breen thanked the people who helped him after the devastating fire.
"I just want to give a heartfelt thanks to so many people who offered kindness and support this past week after the fire at my family’s home on Long Island. Just a reminder for me of how many wonderful people are in my life.” he said.

The Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department battled the blaze in the early hours of Sept. 25. The Washington Post reported that no one was home at the time, and Breen and his family were away. Breen lost his notes he wrote by hand from every game he commentated, along with family mementos.
