Fire Sweeps Through Nassau Home's Garage, SUV On New Year's Day

GREAT NECK ESTATES, NY — A massive inferno that started in a vehicle quickly spread through the garage of a Great Neck Estates home on New Year's Day. The blaze broke out around 9 p.m. Wednesday on Wilbur Drive, near Deepdale Drive, officials said.

Firefighters with the Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company arrived to heavy flames in the garage and quickly knocked down the blaze to limit damage to the rest of the home.

"Our thoughts are with the homeowners as we wish them a speedy rebuild in the new year," the fire company said.

No one was hurt.

Firefighters with the Alert Fire Company in Great Neck also assisted, as did the Manhasset-Lakeville Volunteer Fire Department and Great Neck Estates police.
