GREAT NECK, NY — A basement fire in Great Neck forced residents to evacuate Tuesday night in Great Neck.

The blaze ignited around 11 p.m.on Schenck Avenue, police said. Police officers arrived to heavy smoke and determined the fire started in the basement. Officers told residents to evacuate the building.

The Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department extinguished the fire. The building suffered minimal damage and residents were allowed to re-enter the building.

Arson and bomb detectives, as well as the Nassau County Fire Marshals office, were called to the building. No one was hurt.
