
Voters elected Anna Kaplan in the New York State seventh senate district election on Tuesday.
Kaplan, a Democrat, defeated incumbent Elaine Phillips, a Republican, in the state senate election, according to unofficial results.
With 291 out of 292 precincts reporting, Kaplan has 58,118 votes compared to 48,180 votes for Phillips.

Kaplan previously served as councilwoman to the Town of North Hempstead's fourth district.

District 7 includes the areas of Great Neck, Port Washington, Floral Park, Elmont, New Hyde Park, Mineola, Westbury, Hicksville, Roslyn, Old Westbury, Manhasset and Greenvale. Check out the district map here.
