Gun Buyback Event Set For Harlem: What To Know

The Manhattan District Attorney is hosting a gun buyback event in a Harlem church on Saturday for Gun Violence Awareness Month.

HARLEM, NY — A gun buyback event will take place in Harlem this weekend for gun violence awareness month.

The event will take place Saturday at the Memorial Baptist Church at 141 W. 115th St., where people can turn in guns for money with no questions asked.

“As we enter Gun Violence Awareness Month, we are reminded of the toll that firearms continue to take in our communities,” sDistrict Attorney Alvin Bragg said in a news release. “There are far too many people grieving due to gun violence, and we have an urgent responsibility to use every tool at our disposal to get guns off our streets."

You can receive a $200 bank card and an iPad for any handgun or assault rifle, and a $25 bank card for any rifle, shotgun or airgun.

It is limited to one iPad per person subject to availability on a first-come-first-served basis.

The event is in partnership with a slew of Harlem elected officials.

The event will go from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office will also be hosting a basketball showcase on June 10 at 299 South St. to raise awareness about the impact of gun violence, and an Art of Healing Festival on June 17 at East 120th Street in Harlem to honor victims of gun violence.

As of May 28, shootings have decreased 18 percent in Manhattan compared to the same period last year.
