Harlem Environmental Group Launches Lessons For Remote Students
Harlem's WE ACT for Environmental Justice produced online videos and lessons for students on topics such as environmental justice.
HARLEM, NY — An environmental nonprofit based in Harlem created a series of free online educational programs for students currently forced out of school during the outbreak of the new coronavirus.
WE ACT for Environmental Justice launched its first "educational module" Monday for students in grades four through 12, the nonprofit announced. The 15-minute video and accompanying worksheets and discussion questions focus on topics such as environmental justice and environmental health.
WE ACT's educational programs are modeled after the nonprofit's Environmental Health and Justice Leadership Training program, which trains residents of Northern Manhattan on how to become environmental organizers.

“In addition to filling the demand for remote learning content, these modules also fulfill the need for environmental education that is centered around environmental health and justice," Taylor Morton, WE ACT’s education manager, said in a statement.
The launch of WE ACT's educational programs coincides with National Environmental Education Week, which runs through April 24. The nonprofit plans to release additional lessons on its website in the coming weeks. Later this year, WE ACT plans to release a set of standards for climate justice education the group has been developing in partner with New York agencies and elected officials.
