EAST HARLEM, NY — A man is facing murder charges for strangling his girlfriend in their shared East Harlem apartment, an NYPD spokesperson said.

Daniel Arlequin, 34, was arrested Sunday and charged with murder, strangulation, assault and criminal contempt for the death of 48-year-old Tania Gonzalo, police said. Officers responded to their apartment in the Wilson Houses development shortly before 1:30 a.m. and were let into the home by Arlequin.

Gonzalo's body was found in the apartment, but medics could not save her, police said. Police officers arrested Arlequin without a conflict, an NYPD spokesperson said.
