Pedestrian Killed In Manhattan Hit-And-Run, Police Say

The victim was struck by the side door of the car which was left open, police said.

EAST HARLEM, NY A 37-year-old woman was killed early Sunday morning after being struck by an SUV in East Harlem, New York City Police Department officials said.

According to the NYPD, officers responded around 2:16 a.m. to a 911 call about a pedestrian struck near East 118th Street and Third Avenue.

The NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad later determined that the pedestrian had been standing next to a double-parked SUV, speaking with the driver, when the vehicle suddenly accelerated, striking her and causing her to fall to the ground. The victim was struck by the side door of the car which was left open, police said.

The SUV fled eastbound on East 118th Street, leaving the scene without stopping.

Emergency services transported the woman to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, where she was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have not made any arrests, and the investigation is ongoing, police said. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of her family.
