Fire Damages Lake Street Apartment
The small fire was put out in a matter of minutes, but traffic was redirected through Silver Lake for about an hour.
Firefighters quickly knocked down an apartment fire in West Harrison Monday afternoon that caused small damage to a room above Silver Lake Wines and Liquor.
The fire was called in at about 3:15 p.m. when someone noticed water leaking from the apartment. The Purchase and West Harrison Fire Departments responded and noticed smoke coming from the third floor.
It took about two minutes to put out the fire, most it had been put out by an automatic water system in the building, said West Harrison Assistant Fire Chief Michael Pellegrino.

"It's just the couch and maybe a little bit of the wall," he said. The fire was in the back end of the building and did not affect surrounding businesses, which remained open. No one was home inside the apartment.
Lake Street was closed to traffic for about an hour while authorities responded to the scene.
