Girls All-Stars Start Strong in County Tournament

Two of three Harrison girls recreation all-star teams went home with victories Wednesday night at the Westchester County Center.

The Harrison girls continued what has been a strong showing for Harrison recreation basketball at the county tournament in White Plains, as two of three teams advanced from the first round of action Wednesday afternoon.

Both girls teams from the 11 and under Cub Recreation group advanced easily in their first round games. Harrison Maroon lead Rye Brook 10 - 0 after the first quarter and never looked back, cruising to an easy 34 - 7 victory. That team will advance to the Cub tournament's quarterfinal to take on the winner of Mt. Pleasant and Greenburgh on March 22 at 5 p.m.

Also in that bracket, Harrison Silver jumped out to a 23 - 4 lead over Rye Brook 6 en route to a 31-8 win. Harrison Silver will play the winner of the Shrub Oak, Elmsford game in the quarterfinals on March 22 at 5 p.m.

The Harrison girls in the Midget Recreation League lost a hard-fought game against Rye Recreation 46 - 24, eliminating them from their bracket.

More than 100 boys and girls teams from all over the county are participating in the two-week tournament that pits all-star teams from local recreation leagues against each other. The boys and girls teams are each divided into three age groups. All games are played at the Westchester County Center.

On Monday all four Harrison boys teams , making Harrison teams a combined 6 - 1 in the first round.
