Harrison Hispanic/Latino Population Nearly Doubles in 10 Years
The 2010 census shows several population changes at the local, state and national levels.

The Hispanic/Latino population has nearly doubled in Harrison since 2000, according to census numbers released this week. The overall population in Harrison also increased 13.7 percent, from 24,154 in 2000 to 27,472 in 2010.
The Hispanic/Latino population in Harrison increased by 97.9 percent, jumping from 1,618 to 3,202 during the last 10 years. In contrast the non-Hispanic or Latino population increased only 7.7 percent, from 22,536 in 2000 to 24,270 in 2010.
Other population groups that saw significant increases locally were the Asian population, which increased by 57.5 percent, and the African American population, which increased 82.8 percent.

Westchester County's population increased by 25,654 people, representing a 2.8 percent increase. The county population also saw the highest percent increase in its Hispanic and Latino population, which increased by 43.6 percent, from 144,124 in 2000 to 207,032 in 2010.
Across the board Harrison is also getting older, according to census numbers. The 18 and older population in Harrison increased by 16.5 percent, a slightly higher percent increase than the remainder of the population.

The New York State population overall has increased by 401,645, only a 2.1 percent increase, meaning that Westchester and Harrison are growing faster than the rest of the state.
Local, county and state numbers, however, were lower than the national average. The population of the United States increased by 9.7 percent between 2000 and 2010, with the biggest increases in the south and west.
