Public Meeting Coming Up on 'Pier 5 Uplands' Project at Brooklyn Bridge Park

Reps from Sam Schwartz Engineering and Brooklyn Bridge Park will be on hand to explain the plan to residents and answer any questions.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — The Cobble Hill Association will host a public meeting Wednesday to discuss the next phase of work on the Pier 5 Uplands project.

According to Brooklyn Bridge Park officials, once complete, the project will create 145,000 square feet of new parkland to the east of the Picnic Peninsula — including gardens, terraced lawns, a new boathouse and a new set of public restrooms.

The project will also include changes to the Pier 5/6 Loop Road, which runs north of One Brooklyn Bridge Park. According to the Cobble Hill Association, this work "will rationalize pedestrian walkways, add parkland and improve access to the Park."

Construction is expected to begin in October. Wednesday's meeting will focus on the alterations and how they'll effect One Brooklyn Bridge Park.

The meeting will take place on Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Brooklyn Bridge Park offices, located at 334 Furman St. Park representatives — as well as from the Sam Schwartz Engineering firm, which helped craft the construction plan — will be on hand to answer questions from the public.
