Boxcutter Attack Leaves Driver Seriously Hurt In Huntington: PD

A 60-year-old driver suffered slash wounds and bite injuries after a crash escalated into a violent confrontation.

HUNTINGTON, NY — A 26-year-old Huntington man was arrested Tuesday after a road rage confrontation in which a driver was stabbed and seriously injured, Suffolk County police said.

According to police, a 60-year-old Huntington man was driving a Mercedes Sprinter van on West Neck Road near Old Hickory Lane when a Jeep struck his vehicle at about 3:42 p.m. Police said the Jeep’s driver, Jayson Heitner, then approached the man with a boxcutter, and the two became involved in a physical altercation.

The victim, who is not being identified, suffered multiple slash wounds to his face and body, as well as bite injuries to several fingers, police said. He was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Heitner was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, police said. He is being held at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
