This year, the g6PD Foundation was sponsored by Philanthropist Rosario s. Cassata and his wife Carolyn of The Cassata Foundation in support of Dr. Harris and his spouse, Keely.

G6PD is a genetic disorder that occurs when the body produces insufficient amounts of enzyme glucose, which is essential for preserving red blood cells.

Hemolytic anemia, in which red blood cells degrade more quickly than the body can produce new ones, may result from this if left untreated.

Conditions as severe as cerebral palsy can occur, which Dr. Harris' grandson now suffers from.

Additionally, because this test is usually not conducted until it is too late, Dr. Harris and his spouse are advocating The State of New York to provide standards for prenatal education and testing for prospective parents thru the g6PD Foundation.
