Harborfields Students Write Their Way To A Win
Six talented Harborfields students were winners in the Town of Huntington's 26th Annual Youth Writes contest.

GREENLAWN, NY — Six talented Harborfields students were winners in the Town of Huntington’s 26th Annual Youth Writes contest, the Harborfields Central School District announced.
The competition, which is run by Project Excel of the Huntington Youth Bureau Institute, was open
to Town of Huntington students in grades 4 through 12. Students could submit entries in poetry, short fiction, and essay writing. The winning writers from Harborfields are as follows:
- Lillian Fleischer (12) earned first place in the Grades 9-12 short section category for her story, "The Big Bang."
- Angeline Gutierrez Diaz (9) received third place in the Grades 9-12 essay category for her piece, "My Summers."
- Maeve Nordmann (6) won third place in the Grades 6-8 short section category for her entry, "The God War."
- Emma E. Currie (5) earned third place in the Grades 4-5 poetry category for her poem, "The War Over a Ball."
- Carly Chatterton (4) came in third place in the Grades 4-5 short story category for her story, "The Homerun."
- Hareem Farhan (4) won third place in the Grades 4-5 essay category for her piece, "The Lunar Calendar of the Native People."
The winners were celebrated among principals and superintendents at an award ceremony on May 7 at Henry L. Stimson Middle School.

Their work will be published in the Town of Huntington’s annual journal.
"The district thanks the Town of Huntington for encouraging creativity and expression among local
youth," the district stated.
