Huntington Hospital Ranked No. 20 In State By US News

Huntington Hospital was rated high performing in four categories.

U.S. News and World Report released its annual rankings of the best hospitals in the country for 2018-19, ranking Huntington Hospital No. 20 in New York and No. 6 on Long Island.

Seven Long Island hospitals made the New York rankings, which rated hospitals from No. 1 to 32.

Huntington Hospital was rated high performing in three adult procedures/conditions and one adult specialty:

  • Gastroenterology & GI Surgery— specialty

Huntington Hospital was not nationally ranked in any specialties.

“This high ranking for the third time in a row is a marker of our staff’s expertise as well as our cutting-edge technology,” Gerard Brogan, Jr., MD, executive director of Huntington Hospital, said in a press release. “I appreciate our staff for working so diligently to provide top-quality health care in Suffolk County.”

The top ranked hospital on Long Island was St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn. The hospital was rated high performing in five adult specialties and seven procedures and conditions.

New York-Presbyterian Hospital was ranked as the number one hospital in New York. It was ranked across 14 adult and 10 pediatric specialties and was ranked No. 10 on the 2018–19 U.S. News Best Hospitals Honor Roll.

According to the rankings, the best hospitals on Long Island are:

In all, 158 hospitals in the country ranked nationally in at least one specialty and more than 1,100 hospitals were rated as high performing in at least one common procedure or condition, according to U.S. News. A total of 29 hospitals were rated as "high performing" in all nine procedures and conditions. Hospitals were not ranked numerically for procedures and conditions.

U.S. News uses two methodologies, one for procedures and conditions ratings and another for specialty rankings. The rankings are produced by U.S. News with research organization, RTI International. U.S. News says its methodologies in most areas of care are based largely or entirely on objective measures like risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates, volume, patient experience, patient safety and quality of nursing.
