High Winds Cause Power Outages Across Suffolk County: PSEG
Nearly 9,000 customers across Suffolk were without power Friday as strong winds and heavy rain moved across Long Island, according to PSEG.
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Nearly 9,000 customers across Suffolk County were without power Friday afternoon as strong winds and heavy rain moved across Long Island, according to PSEG Long Island.
As of about 2:40 p.m. Friday, PSEG Long Island’s outage map showed 8,956 customers without electricity countywide. The largest concentrations of outages were reported in Brookhaven, where about 1,658 customers were affected, and Smithtown, which had roughly 920 customers without power. Additional outages were reported in Huntington, where about 704 customers were impacted, and Islip, where approximately 612 customers were without electricity.
Smaller numbers of outages were also reported in East Hampton, Riverhead, Southold, Southampton and Shelter Island, according to PSEG Long Island.

Estimated restoration times for many of the affected areas were listed as around midnight Saturday, though those times remained subject to change as weather conditions continued.
The outages came as a wind advisory remained in effect across Long Island, with southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts of up to 55 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Isolated gusts of up to 60 mph were possible earlier Friday.

PSEG Long Island crews were responding to outages throughout Suffolk County as weather conditions continued to impact the area.
