Strangulation Charge Filed After Road Rage Altercation In Huntington: Police

Police say a verbal dispute between two drivers escalated into an assault, sending one man to the hospital.

HUNTINGTON, NY — A Central Islip man was arrested after a road rage altercation that escalated into an assault earlier this month on Broadhollow Road, Suffolk County police said.

According to police, Wilson Torres, 41, of Massapequa, and John Alston III, 50, of Central Islip, were both traveling northbound on Broadhollow Road when they became involved in a verbal road rage dispute on Dec. 13 at about 7:25 a.m.

Police said both men pulled their vehicles to the side of the road, at which point Alston allegedly attacked Torres, strangling him before fleeing the scene in a 2018 Kia Optima.

Torres, who was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Express van, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Following an investigation by Second Precinct Investigative Unit officers and Second Squad detectives, Alston was located and arrested on Park Avenue in Huntington on Wednesday at about 4:49 p.m., police said.

Alston was charged with second-degree strangulation and third-degree assault. He was held at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.
