Huntington Police Blotter: Roman Catholic Church Burglarized

The man damaged a statue of the Virgin Mary and various items inside the church, police say. ALSO: A car was reported stolen, police say.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? These are recent incidents reported in the Huntington area from June 16 through June 22.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • June 21: Michael O'Shea, 54, of Dix Hills, broke the side door of St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church in Dix Hills between 2:25 and 3:40 a.m. June 21, police said. O'Shea damaged a statue of the Virgin Mary, candles, door panels, and light fixtures, police said. He was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree burglary: illegal entry with intent to commit a crime, police said.

Incidents

  • June 19: Grand larceny (fourth-degree: motor vehicle) was reported on Murdock Street in Huntington Station at 6:32 a.m. An 2017 Infiniti Q50 was reported missing from a driveway, police said. Video footage shows the car being stolen from the driveway by someone the owner does not know and driven westbound on Murdock Street around 4:35 a.m., police said.
