Huntington SUV Overturns With Child Inside; Driver Arrested For DWI: Police
A 10-year-old boy was in the vehicle when an SUV struck a utility pole and overturned, police say.
HUNTINGTON, NY — A Huntington woman was arrested late Thursday after a vehicle crash that investigators say involved driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, Suffolk County police said.
According to police, Simran Kour-Bhagat, 47, was driving a Lexus SUV west on Wolf Hill Road when she lost control of the vehicle near the intersection of Old Country Road at about 10 p.m. The SUV left the roadway, struck a PSEG utility pole, and overturned, police said.
Police said Kour-Bhagat had her 10-year-old son in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The child was not injured and was released at the scene to a family member.

Kour-Bhagat was taken into custody and transported to the Suffolk County Police Second Precinct, police said.
She was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger under Leandra’s Law, driving while intoxicated, and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

Kour-Bhagat is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.
