Kitten Pair Seek New Beginning After Losing Their Owner: Huntington Adoptable Pets Of The Week
The pair were brought to the shelter after their late owner's daughters asked for help finding them a safe, loving home.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Kitty Ann and Blackie have weathered their share of loss — but through it all, they’ve remained loyal, loving companions with hearts still wide open for their next home.
“Kitty Ann and Blackie joined us in mid-October under very touching circumstances,” said Debbi Larkin, president of the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter in East Northport. “Two sisters came to us during the Huntington Fall Festival, desperate to find a safe place for their late mother’s beloved cats.”
The women explained that their mother had rescued Kitty Ann and Blackie years earlier after their original owner passed away. “She saved them from being tossed into the street or dropped off at a shelter where they might’ve been overlooked,” Larkin said. “When she passed, her daughters wanted to honor her by making sure these two were cared for.”

The shelter welcomed the pair with open arms. Kitty Ann, a semi–long-haired tortoiseshell, is about nine years old. Larkin said she’s known for her affectionate, outgoing personality and her love of company.
“She’s very social — always the first to greet you when you walk into the room,” Larkin said. “She loves curling up in your lap or chasing anything that rolls across the floor.”

Kitty Ann’s favorite treats include Fancy Feast, Greenies, and Temptations, and she’s never one to skip a visit to the community plate.
“She has a favorite condo in the room where she likes to bask in the sun and nap,” Larkin said. “And at night, she’s the ultimate bedtime companion — she’ll wrap herself around your head while you sleep.”
Blackie, about ten years old, is a sleek black cat with a tiny white mark on his chest and back toes and mesmerizing yellow eyes.
“He’s a little more reserved than Kitty Ann, but he’s full of quiet charm,” Larkin said. “He’d rather sit beside you than on your lap, but he’s playful — especially when there’s a wand toy involved. We joke that he’s our acrobat because of his ‘pole-vaulting’ moves.”
Blackie shares Kitty Ann’s love for treats and enjoys relaxing at the shelter’s “community plate,” though he prefers less crowding. His favorite spot? The highest condo by the window.
“He loves watching squirrels and birds — we say he’s the protector of the room,” Larkin said. “At bedtime, he curls up at the foot of the bed on a soft blanket.”
Both cats have tested negative for FeLV and FIV, are up to date on all vaccinations, have tested negative for parasites, and are microchipped, spayed/neutered, and litter box trained.
The shelter hopes they’ll be adopted together because of their shared history — but Larkin said they would consider separate adoptions if the right people come along.
“These two wonderful companions share a deep bond and a history of being loved and cared for,” Larkin said. “Through no fault of their own, they ended up here. But now they’re ready for the next chapter in a forever home filled with warmth and kindness.”
