LI Expressway Overnight Closures Coming To Town Of Huntington

The looming closures are for a bridge-painting project. Drivers will need to use an alternate route.

TOWN OF HUNTINGTON, NY — Overnight lane closures are slated for the Long Island Expressway in the Town of Huntington beginning Sunday, the New York State Department of Transportation announced Friday.

A bridge-painting project, expected to last around six weeks, is the reason for the closures.

The westbound lanes will be closed between Exit 50 (Bagatelle Road) and Exit 49 (State Route 110) in Town of Huntington from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for approximately three weeks, weather permitting. Traffic will be detoured onto the North Service Road.

After work is done on the westbound side, the eastbound lanes will be closed between Exit 49 and Exit 50 from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. for approximately three weeks, weather permitting. Traffic will be detoured onto the South Service Road.

The Northern State Parkway will be available as an alternate route.

Drivers were urged by the department to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in one's driver's license being suspended.
