Patch: Tell us a bit about your business or organization:
Monica Lupo: Speak Your Legacy Inc. provides speech therapy services to adult, pediatric, and early intervention populations. They offer mobile objective swallow testing (FEES), in addition to speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing services. They accept insurance, come to you for home-based services or virtual and were voted best of Long Island, 2023.

Patch: How long have you been doing business in town?
Monica Lupo: Since 2020.

Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Monica Lupo: I saw a need for speech services for patients who had difficulties transporting to appointments and those waiting weeks to months just to be seen. I also saw many local companies cutting down sessions to 15 minutes and wanted to advocate for more for patients. There were not enough providers who were willing to go the extra mile and bring the resources needed and most updated research to the patients. I wanted to be a positive change in our communities.

Patch: What's the most common piece of advice you give to customers?
Monica Lupo: Carrying over the tips and strategies from our sessions into daily practice will make a huge difference in optimizing improvements. We are here to help you find ways to translate what we do in treatment into every day life and we welcome questions to create a harmonious growth process for you. Don't hesitate to advocate for what you need so we can best serve you.

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Monica Lupo: I love the whole process. Most of all I love those moments where we can look back and talk about how much has changed and celebrate the victories, big and small. It's a blessing to be a part of someone's journey.

Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
Monica Lupo: We work with the patient's while we're planning goals to make sure they are important to them. We try to avoid out of pocket costs by accepting a wide variety of insurances. We travel to the patient so they don't have to travel to us. And most of all, we genuinely care so when we listen, it's to figure out how we can best help.
