HUNTINGTON, NY — The Huntington Public Library released its February events slate. The library is at 338 Main St., Huntington.

People can register for events by calling 631-427-5165 or online.

Event: The Baltimore Plot: The Mission to Save President-Elect, Abraham Lincoln
Location: Main Auditorium
Date: Feb. 5
Time: 7 p.m.
Description: In February of 1861, Abraham Lincoln began his whistle-stop train ride to Washington. Along the way in different cities and at train stops, the president-elect made speeches to those wanting to get a glimpse of their soon-to-be inaugurated president. However, there was a devious plot to kill Lincoln in Baltimore before he even took the oath of office. Assisted by detective Allan Pinkerton, this story is a race to get through Baltimore safely and on to Washington. Registration required and open to all.

Description: Join singer and curator Tanisha Mitchell as she pays tribute to legendary African American singers who performed at prestigious venues like the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala and the Royal Opera House. Event: Friday Evening Movies: Recent Hits You May Have Missed

Description: "It Ends With Us," 2024, Rated PG-13, 130 minutes. When a woman's first love suddenly reenters her life, her relationship with a charming, but abusive neurosurgeon is upended and she realizes she must learn to rely on her own strength to make an impossible choice for her future. Event: Winter Seed Sowing

Description: Winter is the time to start seeding, but NOT indoors. Learn how to successfully start seeds OUTSIDE in the winter, no greenhouse needed! Winter sowing techniques outside are easier than the windowsill or with light lamps in the basement. Master gardeners will teach you how to get an early start on your vegetables and flowers. Please bring a two-liter CLEAR container. Registration required and open to all.

Description: The Soul Train will be rolling into Huntington Public Library! Sugar and Spice Band will celebrate Black History Month by playing all your favorite Motown jams. The band features talented musicians who have played with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, Little Buster, Gladys Knight as well as many other well-known entertainers. You will hear classics from such artists as Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, and many more! Registration required and open to all.

Event: Great Books Reading & Discussion Group

Description: Selected poems by John Keats (1795-1821). We discuss three short poems written in the style of the odes of the Latin poet Horace. They are "Ode to a Nightingale," "Ode on Melancholy," and "Ode on a Grecian Urn." Their tone is meditative, their structures consistent in stanza, rhyme, and meter. Keats, considered one of the greatest poets in the whole lifespan of English language and literature, is guaranteed to give you a boost. Registration required and open to all.
