Northern State Parkway Closures For Towns Of Huntington, Smithtown

The pavement resurfacing project is expected to last three weeks, according to the state department of transportation.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — The westbound Northern State Parkway in the towns of Huntington and Smithtown are set to close overnight for three weeks starting Monday, the New York State Department of Transportation announced Thursday.

The westbound lanes of the parkway between Exit 45 (Sunken Meadow State Parkway) in the Town of Smithtown and Exit 42 (State Route 231/Deer Park Road) in the Town of Huntington will close from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. for three weeks, weather permitting, for a pavement resurfacing project. One westbound lane is subject to closure beginning at 9 p.m. until 6 a.m.

Drivers will be detoured at Exit 45 for northbound Sunken Meadow Parkway to Exit SM3W for westbound Jericho Turnpike (State Route 25) to southbound Commack Road (Suffolk County Route 4) to westbound Long Island Expressway (Interstate 495) to Exit 51 for northbound Route 231 to return to the Northern Parkway.

Motorists were urged by the department to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of one's driver's license.
